Continuing to experiment with everyday materials, I played around with drinking straws. These are all entirely balanced, there was NO GLUE involved at all. This took a lot of patience as straws are quite light and are easy to blow over. the shapes they create are very geometric and natural. The curve from the straight lines of the straws took a while to get right but the effect is quite pleasing.

Rubber Band Art
While experimenting with everyday materials, I came across a bunch of rubber bands and pins. With geometry on my mind, these small experiments took form. The spiral was an adaptation on the original experiment but the shape reminded me of the Fibonacci spiral. This led me back to natural forms later on.
Spoon Experiments
My final major project involved a lot of experimentation with balance and materials. This ultimately led me to geometry and the concepts for my final piece. These experiments took me a very long time to make as there was ABSOLUTELY NO GLUE involved but a hell of a lot of patience. The spoons I used created natural geometric shapes, which look stunning against the black background.
Paper Dress 2.0
I have finally finished and done the Paper Dress 2.0 shoot! These are a few of the photos taken by Ewan Mathers and modelled by Rachel Bowler. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and it’s perfect for halloween. The skirt took me two or three full days to fold and the paper I used was cut off of a backdrop. For the purpose of the shoot I used a few bulldog clips to fasten it around the back as well as the ribbon threaded around the top. There was also an under skirt, which helped to support it a little. I just want to say a big thank you to Ewan Mathers and Rachel Bowler who this wouldn’t have happened without!
Presence Project
I’ve been working on a project called ‘Present’. I thought about the word a lot and all it’s different meanings. At first you think of a gift or the present time but there is also a presence or something that is present, and this is the meaning I am looking at. I began by taking photos of peoples chairs as they had left them thinking about the presence of a person. I collected my favourite nine images to display together. These are the images:
I then studied the chairs through wire drawings and pen drawings. While I was doing this I began to take a photo every morning of my bed just as I had left it. I did this for a week and the result was quite interesting. I then studied these images too in the same sort of way, making wire drawings and painting with cream on card.
I am really starting to enjoy this project as I am getting more and more ideas I just can’t wait till I finish it!
Paper Dress Progress…
Yesterday I managed to complete folding the piece of paper of my paper dress and I am now thinking about solving the problems of creating hoops to hold the skirt in place. Originally I thought about using wire but it may be that that is too heavy for the paper so I am having to make adjustments to my plans. So far it has done exactly what I expected and is looking good so far so fingers crossed!
